PROJECT KIDS

Our flagship program for children in kindergarten through the 5th grade, Project KIDS provides tutoring, literacy development, and cultural arts instruction. Led by certified teachers, it offers neighborhood children a safe harbor after school and during the summer, while helping parents to stay at work with the assurance that their children are receiving quality supervision and care.

PARENTING AND FAMILY LITERACY SESSIONS

78 families participated in family literacy and parenting classes in 2003. These courses help adults and children gain the skills to thrive in school and the job market, while also teaching parents how to teach their children and how to operate as a family. 25 adults took our GED program last year.

Other services include:

FOOD PANTRY: over 1,200 mothers, senior citizens, and disabled persons received food boxes in 2003.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Every little bit counts here at Operation Shoestring. Our neighborhood counts on us, and we in turn depend on our community for support. We can always find a way to put your time and talents to use, including:

- Providing breakfast for summer camp kids (a great group project)
- Providing food for Saturday parent workshops
- Leading life-skills workshops (shopping on a shoestring, budgeting, debt management, stress management, health issues for women and their children etc.) - Tutoring children in Project KIDS after-school/summer program
- Food pantry (food drives, picking up food, preparing and distributing food boxes)
- Helping maintain our garden and playground

And, of course, tax-deductible donations are always welcome. Your contributions don't just pay for supplies or programs. By helping us, you're becoming a crucial part of our mission: to invest in the hearts and minds of our community. For more information, please contact us by e-mail (or by phone at 601- 353-6336) and start your community investment today.
