OUR ORANGE PERIOD

Friday, November 7th, 2008

For the 7th year in a row, Operation Shoestring staged a Pumpkin Painting Party for Project KIDS at the Ellen Harris Center. Last Wednesday afternoon began with Ms. Jefferson reading some spooky Halloween stories to the eager listeners. Then after filing into the next room, the children braced for the artistic contest. Everybody was given just 10 minutes to paint the best jack-o-lantern they could. When the brushes settled, the finished projects reflected both realist and impressionist techniques. And the occasion was topped off with cupcakes, lemonade, and party favors for all.

On hand to help celebrate were local VIPs Carol Burger President/CEO of the United Way of the Capital Area, her VP of Community Impact, Ira Murray, and WAPT producer / reporter Crystal Hilliard. Doug Caver graciously provided refreshments, and the law firm of Adams and Reese kindly supplied the pumpkins.
